Milia Seeds/Oil Seeds

Have you ever had some little white bumps on your skin under the eyes and they just disappear within a few weeks? They are sometimes mistaken for acne or blackheads. In fact, they are milia seeds, not related to acne or blackheads, and not caused by applying eye cream. Milia seeds are harmless but do affect the overall impression of the face, giving a rough skin texture that may cause upsetting.

What is milia seed

Milia seeds are small, white bumps that appear on the skin, especially under the eyes. They look like white sesame on the face. They are small cysts that are caused by keratin trapped underneath the surface of the skin, hair follicles, and sweat glands.

The skin around the eyes has the thinnest (0.07mm) and most fragile skin on the entire face. It is lacking in sebaceous glands and metabolic process. In addition to its constant blinking and moving actions, the skin around the eyes tends to be dry, tired and prone to develop issues.

Milia are harmless and go away on their own. However, if there are a lot of them or some of them are struggling to go away, it can make the skin look rough and ruin the makeup.

1. Hormonal Imbalance + Improper Cleaning Habits

When our body is on an imbalanced hormonal level, the sebaceous gland will be stimulated to secrete more than usual sebum. If the washing is not proper or thorough, the sebum and keratin may build up in the pores, causing the formation of milia.

2. Spleen Weakness:

In Chinese medicine, the spleen is responsible for fat metabolism. When the spleen is weak and does not function properly, the fat in the body will not be metabolised and will build up in the pores instead, forming milia.

3.Poor Skincare Habits:

Applying eye cream does not cause the formation of milia. However, frequent or aggressive exfoliation may scratch the skin and leave a scar where keratin may then build up underneath the skin, causing the formation of milia.

Two types of milia: mature and premature. Premature milia can be treated by continuous cleansing and oil controlling. Mature milia do not usually go away on their own.

B. Acid Peel

What is acid peel:

Acid peel is a skin resurfacing procedure involving application of acidic solution on the skin. The acidic solution dissolves the oil particles among cells on the outermost layer of the epidermis and promotes the removal of the outermost layer. It stimulates the renewal of skin cells, promotes the replacement of elastic fibers in the dermis, and maintains the healthy state of the skin. It also helps with skin whitening, removing acne marks, reducing pores size and fine lines, removing blackheads, and curing acne and chloasma.

How does acid peel work:

Acid peel/AHA peel solution can loosen the physical attachment among stratum corneum cells by dissolving the oil particles between their cellular gaps, which will peel off the excessively accumulated keratin, unblock the clogged hair follicles and prevent the development of clogging opening at hair follicles. In addition, it stimulates the regeneration ability of epidermal cells and promotes dermal collagen fiber proliferation and its structural rearrangement, which will help to effectively improve skin texture (especially chicken skin), minimise large pores (by inhibiting oil secretion) and brighten skin tone.

1. VISIA examination: Access skin condition or existing skin problems with assistance of data analysis and picture analysis.

2. Face-to-face consultation: Provide suitable acid peel treatment plan based on client’s needs and goals.

3. Pre-treatment: Clean and disinfect the treatment areas.

4. Treatment: Apply an acidic solution on the face, waiting 1-5 mins.

5. End of treatment: Apply a neutraliser solution on face to terminate the acidic reaction and peeling reaction to avoid over peeling.

C. PicoSure Laser Treatment

What is PicoSure:

PicoSure is an aesthetic picosecond laser treatment that can safely and effectively remove tattoos and pigmentation. It has been certified by the US FDA and China CFDA and approved for the use in treatment of pigmented skin problems and pigmentation. A specific wavelength of light (755nm) is used to remove melanin safely, precisely and effectively. The PicoSure Laser device is equipped with a unique FOCUS lens. The FOCUS lens will redistribute 70% of the emitted laser energy and concentrate the energy into the skin, which will break down the melanin at the epidermis. The energy will also create a shock-wave hitting the deep dermis layer and damage the collagen, which will stimulate the repair and regrowth of collagen. Therefore, PicoSure treatment is not limited to improving pigmentation, but also smoothing lines, reducing pore size and restoring a youthful look.

How does it work:

During the rapid breakdown of melanin molecules, The equipped FOCUS lens will create a laser induced optical breakdown (LIOB) in the dermis to stimulate the repair and regrowth of collagen, which helps to brighten skin, reduce pore size, and remove wrinkles. The new collagen will fill up the depressed acne areas, restoring an even, smooth skin surface. To reduce the recurring of milia significantly, on top of PicoSure, a laser treatment is recommended. One laser session will see a big improvement, however, if it comes back, a second laser treatment would be helpful.

1. VISIA examination: Access skin condition or existing skin problems with assistance of data analysis and picture analysis.

2. Face-to-face consultation: Develop a unique treatment plan based on the client’s skin condition and desired results.

3. PATCH TEST: Perform a patch test 24 hrs prior the treatment. Proceed with the treatment when no allergy or abnormal sign is shown.

4. Pre-treatment preparation: Clean, disinfect and apply anaesthetics at the treatment areas. Put on safety goggles.

5. During the treatment: Deliver wavelength pulses at the milia areas. Activate cooling effect from cold air outlets to the skin.

6. Post-treatment: Apply aloe vera gel to soothe and calm down the treated areas.

7. Post-treatment caring.

Duration: 1-1.5 hrs
