Receding Chin/Short Chin/Protruding Mouth

Chin is the most important feature of the lower face, and together with the nose defines the facial shape and profile. A prominent chin can add definition to the jawline. If you are not happy with your chin or lower face profile, aesthetic therapy is a popular approach to rebuild a balanced, defined chin.

Chin

Chin is the lowest point of our face and gives our face definition and shape. An ideal chin is the one with the right amount of projection and sits almost directly under where the lower lip projects outward. If the chin is receding or weak, it will make your face look unproportionate and big.

Also, a receding chin can cause protruding mouth and the rest of the face looks projected outwards. However, it can be fixed by reshaping the chin and the jawline profile, reducing the protruding features of the mouth and the face, given that the protruding mouth is not caused by malocclusion (an imperfect positioning of the teeth) or protruding teeth.

Symptoms

Short Chin:

A quick check to see whether you have a short chin: measure the distance 1) between the subnasal point and stomion point and 2) between stomion point and lowest point of the chin. The ideal ratio of the two measurements is 1:2. Women usually have a slightly smaller number, however, any number lower than 1:1.7-1.8 is considered a short chin.

○ Receding Chin/Weak Chin:

From a side view and assistance of tvl vertical line, a receding chin is where the chin slopes back toward the neck and the lower jaw is out of alignment with the upper jaw. It can be identified through a facial diagnosis.

○ Ideal Chin:

From a side view, the chin should slope slightly forward and align with the highest point of the nose tip and the lip tubercles. Also, the chin should be defined and titled 45° downward and forward, forming a cleft chin.

Causes

Short chin and weak chin are common genetic traits among Asians. Only few of them are caused by malocclusion or protruding teeth.

Affected People

People who have unproportionate facial features due to their short chin; People who have receding chin or short chin; People who have protruding mouth caused by receding chin/short chin.

Treatments

Non-surgical chin augmentation is a sophisticated therapy that injects hyaluronic acid to reshape the chin and jawline for a more balanced appearance and improving the protruding mouth.

A. Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers at the Chin

What is it?

Hyaluronic acid (HA), also known as hyaluronate, is naturally found in tissues and cells. In aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid can act as a filler and is injected into the dermis layer to fill up the folds/depressions or plump certain areas such as lips, cheeks, nose and chin. The injected hyaluronic acid will smooth and fill lines and wrinkles, and add volume to the face naturally. As hyaluronic acid can be naturally metabolised and will not remain in the body, there are no side effects of injecting HA. Also, having repeated courses of HA injection is safe and effective for long term results.

How does it work?

Injecting high molecular weight hyaluronic acid at multiple locations of the chin can add volume and reshape the chin. The chin will be moulded into a more balanced, defined appearance.

Procedure:

1. Face-to-face consultation: Confirmation of a detailed plan of injection areas and dosage after fully understanding the client’s conditions and desired results.

2. Pre-treatment preparation: Clean and disinfect the injection areas. Confirm the injection solution has not been opened.

3.Injection: Injecting the solution at the chin. Massage the injection areas while injecting to create the desired chin shape.

4. Post-treatment care.

Duration: 30-45 mins
