What is Cellulite
Cellulite, also known as orange peel skin, cottage-cheese skin or hail damage, is a skin condition where the arrangement of fat cells chambers is changed and fat cells push against the skin, causing the formation of lumpy and dimpled skin surface. It is much more common in women than in men.
During a woman’s puberty, the change of female hormonal level will change their skin’s subcutaneous structure. Fat cells tend to deposit in the waist, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, resulting in excessive accumulation of fat at those body parts. The deposited fat cells cause the push against each other and slow down the surrounding blood flow, leading to the water and waste retaining in the fat layer. This results in a lumpy and dimpling skin surface, which is called cellulite or orange peel skin as the skin will look like the peel of an orange.
Causes
Our thighs and buttocks contain more fat cells than other parts of the body, making them easier for developing cellulite. Other factors that cause cellulite in our body include:
